Dolphin Spotting on Cardigan Bay

Wildlife Experience

From your balcony from your cottage

Cardigan Bay’s bottlenose dolphins are resident year-round, with peak sightings from May to September. Look for curved dorsal fins breaking the surface from the Tywyn promenade, particularly around high tide. Binoculars help. Dolphins are also commonly seen from Aberdyfi beach just 5 miles south, and boat trips from New Quay offer near-certain summer encounters. As for the best time of day: pick a calm, windless day above all — a flat sea makes fins far easier to spot — and try early morning or evening, when glare is lower and the water is often at its stillest.
